Solving The Problem With Biometrics

Spinal alignment influences how you feel, function, and age. Your spine is fully measureable, meaning just like body temperature, we can measure what is good, bad, and everywhere in between. Finding your optimal spinal alignment is our starting point to solving the problem.

The PostureWorks analysis is a series of spinal and postural biometric readings, which give our doctors a clear snapshot of where you are today and what is the best alignment for you.

The benefit of evidence-based care is that every care plan has a predefined start and finish with easy-to-understand milestones and goals for pain relief, performance, and long-term health.

Together, we help you figure out a measurable, straightforward plan for resolving your mysterious back problem.

How to Fix Posture and Back Problems for Good

Posture and Spinal Alignment Care Plans are adapted from the Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) evidence-based research. More than 30 years of research and 250+ peer articles all conclude that in order to achieve not just short-term pain relief, but also lasting improvements for patients, there are three main types of treatment necessary: Postural Exercise, Neuro-Muscular Reeducation, and Spinal Alignment Traction.

  1. Postural Exercise

Each patient will have a set of postural core exercises based on their unique spinal alignment. These exercises are both for in-office and for home self-care. Initially, these exercises will build strength out of weakness and eventually will give you the endurance you need to hold great posture throughout each and every day.

  2. Neuro-Muscular Reeducation

While the muscles need strength to be able to keep you upright all day long, they also need to be taught a new habit and new default balanced alignment. Have you ever told yourself “I need to sit up straight,” and then 30 seconds later, you’ve fallen right back into the bad posture—that’s your brain taking you back to your default setting. Our brains and bodies learn bad habits day in and day out from our daily activities, traumas, and ergonomics. So, the second step in correcting spinal alignment is to reteach the brain (neuro) and body (muscular) connection to hold you in a new unconsciously wonderful posture.

  3. Spinal Alignment Traction

Crucial for postural and spinal improvements, traction is key to changing the shape of your spinal ligaments and discs. Ligaments and discs are very elastic, tough, fibrous materials that are literally the guidewires for the shape of your spine. They keep everything in place, even while you are moving, sitting, and exercising. Over time, they will adapt and toughen (hypertrophy) into the wrong shape if you sit in front of a computer all day or can be altered if you have a big injury. The goal of traction is to regain flexibility and stretch your ligaments back into their original healthy shape and rehydrate your disc.

The 3 Phases of Care

While regular chiropractic care is helpful in providing temporary relief from back pain, neck pain, and headaches, PostureWorks’ advanced chiropractic care in San Francisco and Lakewood, uses the evidence-based Chiropractic BioPhysics technique as the foundation for our advanced chiropractic care to go well beyond a temporary fix. By rehabilitating your spine back to its natural alignment, you will restore your body’s flexibility, mobility, strength, and create optimal blood flow and nervous system function. In doing so, you will alleviate chronic pain, muscle tension, and related health problems on a more permanent basis.

  1. Initial Care

If you’re in immediate pain and discomfort, the first step is to get you out of pain. For this reason, once you are fully assessed, we will focus on pain relief through adjustments and other stretches geared to alleviate pain and prepare your body for the corrective phase. This phase could take as little as a few sessions to complete.

  2. Corrective Care

Once you’re out of pain, we’ll focus on addressing the underlying cause of the problem; spinal misalignment. For this, we utilize the most advanced and result-oriented chiropractic and PT protocols, which includes traction, decompression, retraining your unconscious postural habits, and customized home care exercises to strengthen your core musculature. This phase, on average, lasts between 3 to 6 months.

  3. Maintenance Care

Once you have completed corrective care, our research shows that pain reduction and increased function stay stable or even improve further beyond what you achieved in the corrective phase. And the good news is a balanced spine is easy to maintain. Our maintenance patients generally see us one to two times per month as we continue to work with them to improve postural, exercise, and ergonomic habits. Annual check-ups will also help us re-measure your posture and guarantee that there is no backward slippage or regression.
